Sprinkler irrigation is among the effective ways of providing adequate water supply to your crops. However, sprinklers may not be economical and so you may consider replacing sprinklers with driplines.
It is therefore good to shift to a high water-saving irrigation system anytime you experience strains on sprinkler irrigation.

- Ball Valves
- Filtration Kit ( Screen filter)
- Lateral pipes (PE)
- Driplines
- Drip fittings includes start, drip middle connector, and end plugs.
- Mainline pipe connectors
- Fertilizer injectors
- Water tanks
What is the Cost of Shifting to Driplines?
The cost of replacing sprinklers with driplines will depend on the size of the farm and the components you replace.
If you scrap the entire system, it will be more costly than just connecting the driplines to the existing mainline pipes.
Factors to Consider when Replacing Sprinklers with Driplines
You can choose to change the entire sprinkler irrigation system or remove the laterals and sprinkler heads to pave way for driplines.
The type of sprinkler system will determine whether to scrap the entire system or just remove sprinkler heads. If your sprinklers are lawn (pop-ups) the risers and sprinkler heads are the parts to do away with.
On the other hand, you are using movable sprinkler head with stands and connected supply pipe, you must disconnect and start a fresh installation of driplines.
The crop compatibility matters as it may be unsuitable for tall growing crops such as sugarcane.
Why Replace Sprinklers with Driplines
In some crop irrigation schemes it is common to find high water bills consumption due to sprinkler high water use. To lower the cost of water use, ditching sprinklers to drip irrigation may be a better solution.
If you decide to do away with sprinklers, you can use button drippers to meet substantial water needs of fruits and trees.
How to easily Replace Sprinkler Systems with Drip Irrigation
- Turn off the sprinkler water supply.
- If your system is connected to a pump sourcing water from a river or dam, you will need a tank.
- Set up a tank on a raised tower or stands.
- Pump water to the tank or connect pipes to supply water to the tank.
- connect your mainline pipe start to the water tank using a tank connector.
- You will need a water filter on the mainline pipe section to filter water coming from the tank.
- Connect a ball valve and water filter to the mainline pipe section.
- Unscrew and remove the sprinkler head
- If the sprinkler mainline pipes are buried underground, dig carefully to expose the risers and supply pipes.
- The riser should be either 1/2″ or 3/4″ male pipe thread, if not replace it with a ½ ‘’ PE riser.
- Connect the riser with a Drip start connector.
- Lay driplines on the farm and connect them to the start connectors.
- Fit end plug on the dripline ends.
- Cover the exposed trenches and test the water flow.
