Features of Coco peat
Excellent water retention capabilities. It can possibly hold water for up to 10 times its weight, allowing it to provide a constant moisture supply to plants. This feature enhances it to prevent overwatering and again, providing a buffer against drought.
Offers good aeration to plant roots. Its structure allows for passage of air, preventing the soil from compactness and enhancing faster seed shooting.
Coco peat does not contain nutrients but acts as a sponge that absorbs nutrients and retains them easily. This is because due to its slow decay and non-nutrient state, bacteria cannot act on it hence fully retaining nutrients.
Generally it is slightly acidic with a PH of about 6.0. This acidity level is suitable for a wide range of plants and allows for better nutrient uptake.
