How to Repair Broken Driplines
Repair Broken Driplines

This guide describes how to repair broken driplines in Kenya. Drip irrigation systems are fragile and thus susceptible to various damages that require proper maintenance and repairs. Driplines, due to their design of small emitter holes often clog with debris and sand particles.

What Could Cause a Drip Irrigation Line to Fail

Clogged emitters cause water not to reach crops at various sections of the farm. Water and silt accumulation can cause the pipes to leak.

In other cases, drip systems may be exposed to damages such breaking of mainline PVC pipes thus causing water loss.

Driplines may also crack when they get old or detach from the connection when run over by animals or human beings.

How to Repair Broken Dripline

Replacing with new Driplines

To repair broken drip lines, you can use a goof plug on the leaking part to stop the water loss. This is a temporary solution as you are looking for a new dripline to replace the damaged one. Once you find a new UV-treated drip tape, replace it with a new one to prevent leaking irrigation water

Using Straight connectors

You can also use straight connectors to repair broken dripline sections. Just easily cut the broken parts of the dripline and replace it with a new size of the dripline. Use two straight connectors to attach the new dripline into the middle section.

Ensure you tightly attach the driplines to the connectors to prevent leakages.

How to repair Broken Dripline Fittings

Fittings such as tees, elbows, and couplings are sometimes damaged due to old age or high-water pressure. Check to find the damaged fitting and replace it with a new one.

Damaged Filters

Filters can also break or fill with silt thus it may block the water supply to the driplines. Damage to the water filters means no water or high silt accumulation in the driplines. Monitor and clean filters regularly to prevent clogging and damage. Replace a damaged filter immediately so that water can reach the driplines.
