Description

Coupling fittings are used to join two or more pipes in a straight line thus enhancing a continuous pipe run.

Moreover, they are also applied to allow for easier replacement of pipes or broken fittings.

Types of Coupling Fittings

Common Couplings

Compression Coupling – Consists of two compression nuts, compression rings (ferrules) and a compression seat.

 Slip Couplings

They have a sliding mechanism that allows them to be adjusted in length.

Push-to-connect coupling

For a quick and tool free installation of pipes.

They are suitable for modern irrigation and plumbing systems.

Threaded Couplings

With female threads on both ends to connect male threaded pipe ends. They are normally best for plumbing systems and irrigation pipes.

How to Install Coupling Fittings

Compression Coupling

To install a compression coupling, insert the pipes into each end of the coupling until they reach the compression seat. Tighten the nuts onto the coupling then compress the rings against the pipes to create a secure connection.

Slip Coupling

When installing a slip coupling, first cut the damaged or faulty part of the pipe. Insert the slip coupling onto one end of the pipe. Insert the other end of the pipe into the opposite end of the slip coupling. Slide the slip coupling to cover the damaged section.

Push-to-connect coupling

The design helps in connecting pipes by pushing them into the fitting until they reach the internal stop. The fittings built in rings provide a tight and secure connection.

Threaded Couplings

Typically, installation of threaded couplings is easier. Apply a thread seal on the male threads of pipes and screw the coupling onto the pipe. This process enhances formation of a secure seal that guarantees lower chances of leakage.
